What to expect

Step 1

Receive your seed packet at home.

Outdoors: Sow after the last frost and when daytime temps stay above 70°F (21°C).

Indoors: Start seeds 3–4 weeks before the last expected frost.

Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil. Sow seeds 1/2 inch deep, spaced about 3 feet apart. Water gently. Water deeply 1–2 times per week to keep soil evenly moist but not soggy.

As vines grow, they may spread widely. You can let them sprawl on the ground or train them on a trellis (support fruits with slings)

Cantaloupes are ready to pick when the skin turns tan and smells sweet. The fruit should easily slip off the fine when lifted.
